With everyone traveling the world, one airline that doesn't seem to get a lot of love is Spirit Airlines. Well, due to my participation in a destination wedding, I was able to experience the infamous Spirit Airlines in all its glory...and here is my honest opinion.
I had to go on Spirit Airlines on my way to Montego Bay, Jamaica last month, and I must say.....I was very disappointed! Let's be clear; I was DISAPPOINTED. Meaning, I had high hopes for the airline and their services; considering it is one of the most affordable airlines out there. So, once my mom and I made it to LaGuardia (shout out to my dad) the first thing they did wrong was they had a ridiculously long line to check your luggage! They had two people available, and that was not enough. Then, they made me pay for a card to check in my bag...which cost $53!!
So, after paying for the card ($8) and check in one suitcase, my mom and I was left with a card from Spirit that still had money on it, but we couldn't refill it. AND we find out in Jamaica, that we couldn't re-use the card. But, that was not what really made me upset. What made my Spirit experience disappointing was when we received our luggage. I'm not sure what they were doing, but the handle along with a wheel was missing. So I had to take an extra 30 minutes of my time and fill out a complaint. Definitely not what I was expecting or wanted to do.
The only thing that saved this trip was the free spirit bonus miles they gave us on our flight back. I haven't used them yet, but I plan on it. Overall, spirit wasn't a bad flight to take, even though they don't serve snacks and their chairs do not recline back, but you do get what you pay for. I will take them again, just to use my bonus points and fly someplace for a lower rate. So, if you decide to do so....just make sure you know what you are getting yourself into.
